Don’t Make These 6 Mistakes on Your CV
Do you have a sound working background with good education and experience, yet wonder what happens with half the CVs you submit to recruiters? If something is wrong with your CV, HR Managers never will never take the time to email you back and tell you why you weren’t selected for an interview.
Can you imagine? “Dear Candidate, we think your experience is great, however your CV was convoluted and disappointing. Please rewrite it and send it back to us.” Of course not, as with all other candidate unsuitable for progressing to interview stage, they will just place you firmly on the “no” pile without a second thought.

- Effectively convey your intelligence.
- Demonstrate the relevance of your work experience & background.

- Express whether you have an understanding of the business world.
Written effectively, a good CV can do all these things however it must be succinct and relevant. You would be surprised how many great candidates fail at this simple task. - You receive enquiries from recruitment agencies, however they are not for the positions you’re interested in or want to actually do.
- You use one CV for a range of different position. This makes your CV fly under the radar of both electronic keyword searchers and the human eye.
- You apply for jobs that look like the perfect match for your skillset however you don’t hear anything back.
- You waste a lot of time in email correspondence with HR Managers who think your experience is different than what it really is.
- You submit your CV for jobs and perhaps you do proceed to interview stage. However the interviewer asks you questions at length about your background experience or previous roles.
- When someone new looks at your CV, they say “Wow, you’ve done a lot of different things!” without knowing how to fully process where your skills lie.
If any of the above points apply to you, perhaps you have to consider refining your CV and giving it a focus. While it’s good to have a colorful and varied background, you also have to give your CV direction and purpose.
