Mobility is the New Stability: Overseas Work Benefits

A recent survey of various Learning & Development professionals have reported that 99% of the respondents were enthusiastic to work overseas. However almost 70% stated that their current place of work doesn’t offer the chance to make this dream a reality.

An HR Specialist from the UK presented her findings, noting that it can be a tricky policy to deny employees the right to work abroad when the company is competing at a global level. “Many of the candidates interviewed are newly qualified, and almost all expect an international career in some form or another. As an employer, providing these opportunities is crucial to retaining the best talent.”

Other findings from the survey found that 87% of respondents felt that tackling new business challenges and facing new cultural experiences would significantly improve their career prospects.

Ms Martin, who worked abroad in Belgium for over 3 years agrees; “One of the many advantages that working internationally will bring is a curiosity and a willingness to not overlook the challenges but to embrace them.”

So, if you are one of the majority of respondents whose workplace is not offering some form of exchange program, you should go to your employer with a three-pronged approach; outline what the benefits will be for your company, the host organisation, and what you hope to get out of it!

Employees ability and willingness to travel should be seen as a tribute and delegated accordingly in the modern working age.
